The first time the drug giant Pfizer Inc. sold a generic version of its erectile dysfunction drug Viagra to consumers, it was a huge success. The drug, sold as the impotence drug Levitra, also sold itself as the first erectile dysfunction drug to become widely available.
But the drug's manufacturer, Pfizer, was caught off guard by the sudden launch of a generic version of the erectile dysfunction drug.
Pfizer officials in Canada said the generic version of Levitra was not approved by the FDA in Canada.
The drug maker did not respond to a request for comment.
The drug was sold as a prescription drug in the United States, but it was approved by the FDA in Canada as a generic, and the drug became available as a cheaper version of the drug.
